Background:
SEE ENTIRE DESIGN BELOW: For this week's exhibit, I wanted to try and create a book cover that could potentially inspire readers to immerse themselves in a semi-mockup story while trying to adhere to book cover design basics/trends. Also, I wanted to try and create a simple design this week instead of the bigger projects I've been doing.
Contrast:
The main image itself is fairly busy so I decided to extend the roof in the image to be able to house the header text and NYT copy above the header to help give the header text a bit more contrast to stand out and help grab the viewers attention.
Repetition:
Since the design is fairly simple, I tried to bring in as much repetition as possible by using the same typeface for the title and author text to help frame the two sections of copy.
Alignment:
Everything is center-aligned to help keep the viewer's attention down the middle of the cover.
Proximity:
There are technically only two sections within the design so I tried to include the most eye-catching copy at the top of the design, with the contextual copy at the bottom.

Revisions:
-
Changed format of title to deviate from the block-style of many traditional sportsbooks and opted for a serif stylized approach.
-
Increased weight of "Round" to create more emphasis on the word.
-
Darkened model's midsection to help the descriptive copy stand out more.
-
Decreased size of author's name to not distract from the title.
